Job Description:
The GC and GCMS Product Manager role within the Chromatography Business Unit, is responsible for managing the overall performance and strategic direction of the product line. The successful candidate will work across the major functions of the company, including Sales & Marketing, Research & Development, Operations and Administration. The Product Manager will drive all product management activities related to Gas Chromatography (GC & GC/MS) including business management, SKU management, Analysis & Pricing, as well as participate in business development related activities. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the GC & GC/MS products meet the needs of next-generation scientific discovery while also achieving corporate profitability objectives. The position has the following responsibilities: Business Management • Manage product activities across Sales & Marketing, R&D and Operations to meet targeted revenue and prime margin goals in support of the Chromatography business unit. • Develop and implement overall product strategy, including features and benefits, branding, selling price and marketing strategy. • Analyze performance on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. • Create and implement strategies to maximize strengths and overcome weaknesses in the business plan. • Create go-to-market campaigns and manage implementation across all functions world-wide. • Create Product development pipelines and manage products through the entire process, i.e., from product development to post-sales. Develop product teams within each function to ensure the success of the GC & GC/MS product commercialization. • Develop marketing and application support materials across a broad range of application areas. • Manage the product life cycle through end-of-service-life SKU Management, Analysis & Pricing • Develop pricing strategies • Monitor and ensure accuracy of product descriptions and selling prices in SAP database. • Manage additions of new SKUs to database. • Interact directly with internal database personnel to ensure management of database information, including accuracy and timely entry. • Perform competitive analysis and develop competitive attack plans. Business Development • Work with Corporate Business Development teams to identify potential acquisition candidates among manufacturers of GC & GC/MS instrument and consumables. Target, validate and integrate acquisition candidates. • Identify Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to fill product gaps in the GC & GC/MS portfolio. • Determine conditions of resale of OEM products, including features and benefits, branding strategy, product cost, selling price and marketing strategy. • Recommend product specifications. Essential Knowledge and Skills: • 10+ years of hands-on experience with GC instrumentation and product management. • Demonstrated familiarity with the end-markets, industry players, and competitive positioning. • The candidate must also have a clear understanding of cross functional development process, must be able to work independently, be part and provide direction to the project team. • The candidate must be detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience/Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or comparable technical education, Masters or PhD preferred. Business Management degree highly desired.
